Instructors: People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond

The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond founded in 1980 by our current Executive Director Ronald Chisom and the late Dr. James Norman Dunn is celebrating its 35 year history of anti-racist organizing with the people undoing racism all over the country and beyond.  Our collective anti-racist movement will be bringing people together in New Orleans May 19-22 to: strengthen our analysis, learn from each other; and to develop anti-racist strategies.  Our collective anti-racist movement can be felt from Alaska to Florida, from Washington State to New York State; from Minnesota reservations to Mississippi plantations.  During our gathering we will have in depth discussions and work sessions on how to use the issue to strengthen your base.  Issues include Arts and Cultural Organizing; Criminal Justice/Prison Industrial Complex; Education; Environmental, Health Care; Immigration; Local and Regional Governments; and Youth Organizing.  We will also have speakers, panels and networking sessions focused on systems change; effective strategies to implement anti-racist principles in your networking and organizing, and Freedom Schools.  The final evening of the gathering will be a celebration of the Network New Orleans Style with Great Food and Music.  The Closing Plenary will highlight the issues of immigration and housing including perspectives from the Haitian, Asian Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, Latino, Native and African communities.  Nationally and regionally know anti-racist organizers and speakers will join us to share their knowledge and learn about the depth and breath of our collective anti-racist movement.
